Exporting books

Editoria uses an automated typesetting system. Your content is exported using a design template to insure the results come out with minimal alterations required. With Editoria you can export books in Epub or PDF files that are automatically typeset. Regardless of the final format, a PDF preview can be generated. Both preview and final PDF files are created using the javascript library Paged.js. Editoria also allows export to the ICML format which provides a compressed zip file containing all images used in the book and the ICML file ready to be imported into design software.

Templates

Editoria uses templates, developed with javascript and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), to add visual design and layouts to your semantically marked up HTML. Depending on your installation, you will have a number of choices to choose from including book designs with notes at the end of each chapter or one with all notes at the end of the book. Be sure to select a template developed for the export file of your choice (Epub or PDF).

A list of available templates can be viewed by selecting Templates from the upper left of the Book Dash. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the available templates using this page before going through the preview or export process. On the template page you will have a lot more information about each template. When selecting a template for preview or export all you have is the template’s name.

Preview

  1. In the Book Builder select Export Book from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

  2. Select the Preview button, if it is not already selected. The selected button will have a blue background with white letters.

  4. The generated Preview will display two panes. On the left will be the selected template’s CSS. On the right is the preview of your content in the selected template. You can modify the template CSS on the left pane if needed.

  5. From the Preview toolbar you can:

    • Save changes modifying the original template or as a new template.

    • Download HTML, this file will include your content, unstyled by the template, which may include a table of contents and notes.

    • Print will open the styled version of your book in a new browser tab/window. You can then use your browser to print the preview to a PDF file.

    • Back to Book, exits the Preview.
